Stud Work Seminar
On 26th January 2008 NWLRC
brought International Show judge and breeder Lynn Hennessy to Chorley in
Lancashire to lead a Seminar on Stud work and
related issues. The event was a continuation of the clubs efforts to support an
educational programme for its members.
Lynn
proved to be a fascinating speaker and knew her subject inside out.
The seminar was a must for anyone considering using their dog at stud, either
now or in the future.
Novice breeders gained much
information in language that they understood. All Lynn’s advice was well explained and backed up
with sample video clips. More experienced breeders felt that they had all
learned something new or had been reminded of forgotten
knowledge.
The key note from her was that
breeders must be very professional, well prepared in their approach to visiting
bitches and their owners giving them time, care and consideration. She talked
her audience through what they would need on the big day, introducing the dog
and the bitch followed by the serving. Her talk continued with a look at
possible problems and what should happen after the event.
Her listeners greeted with a hot
drink, allowed a coffee and biscuit break and a pause for lunch with time to
digest what they had heard and consider any questions they might have. Questions
had been taken through out the talk but this final part gave time for more
detailed discussion.
In an email received from Lynn saying thank you
for our hospitality.
Although
the audience was small she felt that they were very attentive with good
input and the day had a good atmosphere in a very nice
venue.
